Children are a priority at First Lutheran Church; they are a vital part of every aspect of our ministry. One way that is evident is in our children’s educational programming. The primary component is Sunday School which takes place after Sunday worship (10:15 a.m). The age range is 3 through 13. The children begin their hour with a Bible story, followed by a craft period. A Christmas pageant has been an annual event with participants from all of the Sunday School classes.

Vacation Bible School is another annual event held during the summer for one week for children ages 2 through 6th grade. This week is packed with fun and Christian learning. The format is based on a theme connected to a Bible story or stories designed to capture kid’s imagination and make learning a fun experience. Older youth have a lot of fun serving on our staff.

Baptism is available to children of all ages (as well as adults). Each baptism is celebrated for its rebirth and commitment to the Christian life.

We provide First Communion instruction for children of any age (and adults, too). If a child is asking for the sacrament, they are ready to receive it. Three classes are held with instruction from our Pastor. These classes are held in the spring.

Our Sunday worship service normally includes a children’s sermon, “Just for Kids.” This is a brief message, geared to a child’s level of understanding, delivered by the Pastor before the adult sermon. Many adults remark about how meaningful this part of worship is for them!!

Our youth choir at First Lutheran is made up of elementary school children. Their rehearsals are approximately monthly so they can prepare special musical offerings for Sunday worship.

For tiny ones whose parents want a safe place for them to stay while they worship, we provide nursery care for the 9:00 AM Sunday morning service downstairs from our sanctuary. It is staffed by adult and youth volunteers.
