At First Evangelical Lutheran, we are blessed to have many parishioners who volunteer their time to make our church thrive. We are ALWAYS looking for members to volunteer to serve. If you are interested in sharing your gifts in any of these areas, please call the church office at 401-884-5572.
Gardening; Caring for God’s Creation
Gardening is therapeutic. It soothes the soul. From late spring through fall, our garden committee gathers on Mondays at 10 am to care for our church flower and vegetable gardens. The flowers are placed on the altar and shared as bouquets for those in the hospital or homebound. Vegetables are shared with the EG Interfaith Food Cupboard to provide its clients with fresh produce.
Grief Support
Connie Slick remains faithful to the Grief Ministry. In her words, “Any time someone passes away, and I am notified by email from our wonderful secretary, Evelyn, I send Grief Books. These simple little booklets seem to touch lives and speak to the heart of those grieving.
Interfaith Food Pantry
First Lutheran partners with the East Greenwich Interfaith Food Cupboard to provide food to people in need of nourishment for the body and the soul. It is housed at St. Luke‘s Episcopal Church, 99 Pierce St, East Greenwich, RI (401-884-4116). It is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30 – noon (except for state holidays), or in emergency by appointment. Hot meals are provided on the fourth Monday of each month from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm and it is a time for dining and fellowship. From time to time, entertainment is provided.
We collect food donations in bins in Fellowship Hall and in the Church Sanctuary.
For more information, contact Kim Corwin (401-641-7795).
Quilts from the Heart
Quilters meet every Monday at Oceans of Grace for fun, fellowship and to create beautiful quilts. All quilts are blessed, dedicated to a special person, and given to Project Linus for children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.
We Care Ministry
People meet at Oceans of Grace to make cards and gifts, and plan visits for those who are ill, hospitalized, homebound, or lonely.
Altar Guild
First Lutheran Historical Cemetery and Scatter Garden
Members lovingly care for our beautiful gardens in our Cemetery on Division St, East Greenwich, RI.
Worship & Music
Our Pastor writes, sings, and plays music each week that brings the gospel alive! We have many gifted musicians who generously share their gifts with us – singers, instrumentalists, and songwriters. Our musical director, Phillip Martorella is a Juilliard-trained professional. In addition to playing and singing, he teaches music lessons at the church and provides many concerts. Check the calendar for upcoming events. Marge LeBeau found her voice through the church band and has recently recorded two albums.
